Many industrial grating jobs benefit from hardware that can be installed from above the grating. Access below a platform may be limited by height, equipment, piping, cable tray, or safety restrictions. GFX-GG grating fasteners are designed to be easily installed from above with a nut driver, helping crews secure 19-space steel bar grating without welding the support.

This guide is not a substitute for project engineering or site safety procedures, but it outlines the practical checks buyers and installers should understand before requesting or installing clips.

Confirm the grating before installation

The current GFX-GG product stock is for 19-space steel bar grating only. Confirm the grating spacing and the bearing bar depth before choosing a clip. The depth letter starts with A for 1-inch grating and increases by 1/4 inch with each letter through G for 2-1/2-inch grating.

If the grating depth is 1-1/2 inches, the letter is C. The final SKU will be either GFX-GG-1C or GFX-GG-2C, depending on flange thickness.

Confirm the support flange

The lower jaw must engage the supporting flange. Measure the flange where the clip will be installed and choose the jaw family that clears that thickness. GFX-GG-1 is for flange up to 21/32 inch. GFX-GG-2 is for flange over 21/32 inch and up to 1-11/32 inches.

Check for coatings, irregular edges, and obstructions that could interfere with jaw engagement. A clean measurement reduces delays and avoids ordering the wrong jaw family.

Position and tighten the fastener

The top plate sits above the grating and the lower jaw reaches beneath the supporting flange. Once the clip is in position, a nut driver can be used from above to tighten the assembly. The installer should verify that the top plate spans the intended bars and that the lower jaw has properly engaged the flange.

Do not rely on bolt tightness alone as proof of correct installation. After tightening, visually check the clip position where possible and confirm the grating panel is seated as intended. Follow the project requirements for quantity and spacing of fasteners.

Why above-grating access matters

Above-grating installation can reduce the need for underside access, which is valuable on elevated platforms, mezzanines, catwalks, and retrofit work. It can also help maintenance teams replace or add fasteners during planned downtime when access windows are tight.

For buyers, the important point is to order the correct clip before the crew is on site. Use the clip selector to convert grating depth and flange thickness into the proper SKU, then send the inquiry to Anchor Point Hardware for current pricing and lead time.

Information to include with a quote request

A complete inquiry should include SKUs, quantities, ship-to city and state, target delivery date, material preference if applicable, and any documentation requirements. If the site condition is unusual, include photos or notes about the flange and access constraints.
